Theatrical Map of Europe

Theatrical Map of Europe - artistic workshops for disfavoured groups.
Project implemented between December 2003 and September 2004.

This project was selected by the EC in the Small Projects Facility 2002 Programme by Delegation of the European Commission in Warsaw. Only 37 projects were chosen from among 430 proposals submitted by Polish organizations. The Association was awarded a grant of 41,810 Euro for theatre workshops involving around 300 participants.

"Theatrical Map of Europe" involved a large group of people - the participants of 25 drama workshop groups who, for many reasons, were socially at the margin of the society. A series of nine-month drama workshops for children, teenagers and adults completed the three other parts of the project: the programme of open presentations - integration meetings with audience, publication and the creation of an Internet website presenting the work of the workshop groups. All aspects of the project were aimed at improving the situation of potentially marginalized groups and supporting the process of European integration through artistic activity.

Workshops were held in 25 specialist educational and re-socialisation centres including local community/therapy centres, education and re-socialisation centres, self-help houses, centres for psychiatric care, orphanages and hospital wards dealing with occupation therapy. Classes were run once or twice a week for two to three hours. Etudes and drama exercises were inspired by selected topics, characters, places, historical events, as well as elements of fairytales and other aspectsof the rich European culture. Each group chose one of twenty-five member states and prepared one fragment of the Theatrical Map of Europe.
